Reeling in Success

Success stories radiate inspiration. This story began with the help of JA of Greater Washington <> and the parents of Lauren Real. President of JA of Greater Washington Ed Grenier shared how the supporters in Lauren?s life helped her flourish into a determined woman who refuses to let her dreams go unfulfilled.[Lauren Real] <>"Together, we have a responsibility to build a ladder from the classroom to the future providing our young people with relevant, meaningful experiences," said Lauren. "We have a responsibility to activate Junior Achievement?s mission into a major, coordinated, community movement."This story began in Silver Spring, Md., where Lauren attended Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (BCC). Her parents worked hard to get her into this international baccalaureate world school and she knew she wanted to perfect her path to pediatric nursing. Her junior year, Lauren earned a spot in Career Partnership Day (CPD), a partnership experience that explores the world of work. Partners include Junior Achievement?s JA Job Shadow? <> program, BCC High School, BCC Chamber of Commerce, and The British School of Washington. Lauren spent an entire day shadowing professionals in the emergency room.As inspiring as it was, Lauren felt unsure of her chosen profession. "Something didn?t click," she said. Her senior year, she was fortunate to participate in CPD yet again. This time she walked into Doubletree Bethesda to experience the working world of hospitality. She learned the skills required to be successful in the tourism industry, studied multiple departments and enjoyed the multi-cultural charm. Thanks to scholarships and a full-time job at Embassy Suites, Lauren put herself through Marymount University?s Hospitality Management program. Today, the JA alumna is 23-years-old and the front office manager at the Embassy Suites at the Chevy Chase Pavilion in Washington. She is currently pursuing her master?s in Hospitality Management at Georgetown University."I couldn?t be happier," Lauren said.
